Home Energy Audit
Our thorough home energy audit process is a complete evaluation of the following components:
Sealing and insulating the envelope of your home which includes its windows, doors, outer walls, ceiling, and floors, is often the most cost effective way to improve energy efficiency and comfort, and should be the first energy efficiency improvement made to any home.
Insulation keeps your home warm in the winter and cool in the summer. There are several common types of insulation – fiberglass (in both batt and blown-in forms), cellulose, rigid foam board, and spray foam. When correctly installed with air sealing, each type of insulation can deliver comfort and lower energy bills during the hottest and coldest times of the year.
In houses with forced-air heating and cooling systems, ducts are used to distribute conditioned air throughout the house. However, in a typical house, 20-30 percent of the air that moves through the duct system is lost due to leaks and poorly sealed connections. The result is higher utility bills and difficulty keeping the house comfortable, no matter how the thermostat is set.
Installing a programmable thermostat to automatically adjust your home’s temperature settings when you’re away or sleeping will keep the temperature set at its energy-saving set-points for long periods of time; for example, during the day, when no one is at home, and through the night, after bedtime.
Want to be comfortable and save money all year? As much as 50 percent of your monthly utility bill goes to heating and cooling your home. And, if you have an older, inefficient system, it can cost you hundreds of dollars more on your annual home energy costs.
Swapping out 10 to 15-year-old appliances such as a refrigerator or a clothes dryer will lower your electric bill. Consumer advocacy groups found that most energy saving appliances outperform less efficient models without necessarily costing more.
If your water heater is more than seven years old, chances are it’s wasting energy. Today’s water heaters are much more efficient, saving you energy and money.
With the average U.S. household using more than 50 inefficient light bulbs, the opportunities to save on your electric bill with efficient lighting are terrific. From natural lighting, LEDs, and high efficiency incandescent bulbs. We focus on providing the most efficient and effective lighting solutions for your property and budget.
